Bookworm imports the following from your CSV:

  • Book title and author
  • ISBN (used to match against existing books in the Bookworm database)
  • Reading status (Want to Read, Currently Reading, Finished, Did Not Finish)
  • Your rating (1–5 stars)
  • Date finished (for finished books)
  • Page count (used when creating new books)

For each row in your CSV:

  1. Bookworm first checks if the book exists by ISBN — exact match.
  2. If no ISBN, it searches by title + author (case-insensitive).
  3. If found → the book is matched (no duplicate created).
  4. If not found → the book is created in the Bookworm database.

After matching or creating, Bookworm adds the book to your library with the imported status and rating.

After the import completes, Bookworm shows a summary:

  • Imported — books successfully added to your library
  • Matched — books that already existed in Bookworm’s database
  • Created — new books added to Bookworm
  • Skipped — books already in your library or rows with missing data
  • Errors — rows that couldn’t be processed (shown as a count)
